5. He said that the release of the men gave the green light to terrorism.他說,釋放這些人,等於向恐怖主義活動開綠燈。注:也可以翻譯成“等於縱容恐怖主義活動“。
6. The CIA is drawing fire as its director is questioned over press leaks.中央情報局被罵得焦頭爛額,因爲局長正因爲報界泄密的問題接受質詢。注:CIA=CENTUAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY,美國中央情報局;drawing fire,原意是“招致猛烈抨擊“;leaks,此處顯然指”泄密“。
7. Albright played hardball by walking out of the meeting.奧爾布萊特以退出會場的方式表示強硬的立場。注:play hardball,表示強硬(立場、抗議、反對等),hardball也可以用作形容詞,如hardball questions,故意刁難,非常難回答的問題。
