漢語有句俗話叫『熟讀唐詩三百首，不會做詩也會「謅」』，它道出了在語言學習上『積累』與『生成』的關系。學習英語要有大量的語言積淀，而這種積淀是進行語言遷移和語言生成的前提和基礎。要學好英語，就要大量的誦讀，記憶。語言學家曾說：Language is nothing but remembering and memorizing.(語言即記憶)。而我們在學習中，卻常常很『功利』，總是寄希望於別人給自己『講』會，或者有什麼『速成』的『捷徑』。於是，我們就習慣於『聽』課，並驚嘆別人的侃侃而談；我們忘記的恰恰是自己堅持不懈的有效訓練。殊不知，英語學習最好的捷徑就是誦讀，這是一個高度自控的語言實踐方式。
目前，我們在學習英語時，面對的最大問題就是『語境』的缺失和『應試』的壓力，往往形成了很多人學習英語就是做題、考試的誤區。缺少交流的語境，更需要自己先『充足電』，然後纔能在適當的語境下，輕松自如地駕馭語言，與人交流。
誦讀什麼？其實，可以記憶的材料多種多樣，可以根據個人的愛好。這裡，我特別想和同學們說的，就是怎麼選擇和記憶課本的語句、語段和語篇。
教材是我們的學習之『本』。每一個單元，老師在課上都做了充分的講解，理解上的問題可以迎刃而解；而記憶，就要看同學們能不能『發功』了。過去常常出現這樣的現象，一冊書學過之後，再看看書的目錄，很多同學都回憶不起來我們究竟學了什麼？除了又多了幾個詞(有時連多的幾個詞都記不住)，主要話題信息、表達方式和主要觀點等，沒有清晰的回憶，學習成了『竹籃打水』。
課本每個單元的三個大閱讀材料，往往都蘊涵『佳』句『靚』段，如何判斷選擇呢？
一、用詞有亮點：含有新詞、新的搭配和結構，特別是在語段中為避免重復而使用相近意思的詞匯組(群)。
